China Free??

This morning I went to Mollie Stone to pick up some deli meat and fish. At the seafood section, there is a big sign says "We do not carry seafood from China". It made me confuse and wonder what is going on. I came home and Google it then I found this article "China executes ex-head of food and drug agency" and another couple related news, "Made In China" and "China Free". I'm worried as a consumer and sad because I can see this is going to affect the whole importing in Asian big time. One selfish person puts the whole Asian economy in jeopardy.

After Max went for a nap, I checked all my canned food because most of them, I got from my favorite and biggest Chinese supermarket in my area. I tossed my frozen shrimp that I bought awhile ago because I wasn't sure where it came from(I tossed the bag when I first opened it).
I looked around the house and tried to figure it out what else I can do because it's not only food.

Then I think "Am I be over reacted?"

No you're not overreacting at all! Now I need to look at my fridge too! So scary to read these stories. i just got a box of frozen scallops and shrimp from Korean store, not sure if they're from China, you know how they hardly label anything from Asian stores! I mightjust toss just in case and avoid seafood for a while from Asian stores.

Nope, you are not over-reacting. When I shop at the Asian supermarket I always look for alternatives to products made in China. The Asian newspapers have been reporting horrific product/food contamination and fraud for years.

Unfortunately it's not a matter of the greed of just one man. It's corruption on every level. As well as just a government that promotes "progress" without checks and balances. And people who can not afford or risk to be whistleblowers.

Being Chinese myself though you can't avoid everything but I'm definitely being more vigilant.

My mom (she lives in Hong Kong) has been telling me horror stories about food (especially seafood) from China. Some are really really scary. I am more careful nowadays when I buy seafood.

When I go to the Chinese market, I usually buy the stuff from Taiwan, since it seems to be better quality.

I agree with you 100% about searching through foods. It makes me so nervous to think that food can have cardboard, antifreeze, or god knows what else in it.
